Bij aantasting van het kraakbeen van de elleboog door trauma, chronische overbelasting of reuma kan artrose in de elleboog ontstaan. Als de arm niet te zwaar belast hoeft te worden bestaat de mogelijkheid tot het vervangen van het scharniergewricht van de elleboog door een prothese.
